Introduction

The VS1011 is VLSI Solution's basic MP3 decoder chip. It has a reliable and high-quality MP3 and WAV decoding engine combined with a stereo D/A converter and earphone amplifier. Although intended as slave processor, the VS1011 also has a standalone mode that can be used to create a simple standalone MP3 player. Available in two difference packages, this IC is truly customer-proven: over ten million units have been delivered!

Due to the CMOS process used for VS1011E being discontinued, VS1011E is currently End of Life, see EOL_VS1011E_2023.pdf

While vs1003b can run from a single 2.8V power supply, using a separate CVDD regulator is highly recommended. With it you can populate the board with a different CVDD regulator and vs1053b/vs1063a or a future IC that uses the same pinout (but a newer technology).

Use a 12.288MHz crystal, design using the LQFP-48 pin-out from the vs1063a datasheet, and a separate CVDD regulator for your design to be future-proof in hardware.
